Microsoft is delaying its October update until November
Just when you thought that Windows 10 was good for you, the latest Windows update deleted your files. Now Microsoft is delaying its October update until November. Microsoft had to stop its Windows update because it was deleting some computer files.
It appears that the issue occurred when the consent prompt did not appear when copying files from a .zip file. The copy action does not occur and the files have not been overwritten. This error does not happen to everybody but those who are working with zip files and have not extracted the file first. Those who have cut and pasted from their files will lose their files.
Now, this issue may be beyond the average computer user, but it is real when it results in the loss of data. This is another good reason to back up your files and do this on a regular basis.
Microsoft has had its problems with updates. No wonder people don’t want to update their computers. Microsoft has put off any solution until November not wanting to release an update with other issues.
I recommend that people to avoid checking for updates now until the issue is fixed. Microsoft carefully rolls out their updates slowly so that it will discover bugs and fix it before it causes more issues.
The moral of this piece is to do weekly backups and to check for backups when adding new programs to your computer.
This happens when Microsoft releases the update to its Windows Insider program where beta users test it and give feedback to Microsoft. I am part of the “insider program.” The bug, however, was not noticed by us.
To make matters worse, Microsoft skipped the next step, “final release preview,” to make a press event. When the update was marked as stable, only those who request the option of a manual update. Actually, Microsoft uses this as a final line of testing and halted the update when issues arose.
Finally, the update is slowly rolled out to the average computer user when Microsoft is sure of its compatibility. That is fine except when the pop up says “check for updates” skips this order leaving the computer user vulnerable.
The moral of this piece is to do weekly backups and to check for backups when adding new programs to your computer.
You would not believe that most of my customers don’t back up their computers and that is why they are calling me.
